The Campotosto Lake is the biggest in Abruzzo: the reserve is located between the Gran Sasso mountain and the Laga mountains.

The rich flora gives the scenery different aspects: willow trees where the water is stagnant, and in the coldest areas there are some yew trees. The ambience is favourable also to the mountain maple and the cherry tree.

The fauna is made up by species like hare, pheasant, grey partridge and fox. The ecosystem also favours the resting place of many migratory birds: the mallard, moor hen, etc.
