The Majella National Park is characterized by the Majella Mountains which are, even if not the highest complex in Abruzzo, the most impressive in the entire Appennino, with more than 60 peaks that exceed 2000 mt. above sea-level.
Its dimension, location and peaks make the park very interesting for its bio-diversity.
The Majella National Park houses more than 78% of the mammal species (apart from sea mammals) which live in Abruzzo, and more than 45% of those which live in Italy: deer and roe now populate nearly all the woodland, numbering about 150 and 100 respectively. The Abruzzo chamois also lives here (about 130) and the Marsican Brown Bear (about 15-20).

Other mammals you can find here are: Appennine wolfes (about 30), otters, wild cats, martens, beech-martens, weasels, polecats and many more.
The steep and great deep valleys, typical of Majella, are the ideal refuge for golden eagles, woodpeckers and hawks.
